WHAT: 6th Annual MLK Youth Parade
WHEN: Saturday, January 14, 2012

WHERE: Downtown Houston
Location: Originating @ 1300 Holman Street-Houston,Texas-77004
WHY: For the sake of kosen-rufu, we will walk the path of peace with the heart of a lion king. For the sake of the members, we will create indestructible unity and build eternal bond of friendship. For the sake of Sensei, we will show actual proof in our daily lives through faith, practice, & study. For the sake of our future, we will become trusted and capable leaders in society.
WHO: As this is the MLK YOUTH Parade, we are encouraging all Youth & Future Division SGI members and any young friends and guests to participate in the parade by joining one of the performance groups:
- Dance
- Tall Flags
- Drums (Drum Line, Taiko Drums, African Drums)
- Brass band
No experience is necessary!

7 – 8:30pm: Taiko
Saturday, January 7
10:00am – 12:00pm: Dance, Tall Flags
11:00am - 12:30pm: Brass Band
11:00am - 12:30pm: Drum Line
11:30am – 1:00pm: African Drums
Sunday, January 8
FINAL OUTDOOR REHEARSAL for the MLK Youth Parade at Lamar High School parking lot. This is a mandatory* rehearsal for everyone who wants to be in the parade.
Timeline on Sunday:
8:00 AM - ALL YOUTH (including Future Division) meet at HBC and check in with their performing groups
9:00 AM - Daimoku & Gongyo
9:30 AM - Outdoor Rehearsal Orientation
9:50 AM - All youth leave for Lamar High School by foot (the school is within short walking distance); ESD will be transported by car to school either by parents or designated parent
10:15 AM - Rehearsal Starts
11:30 AM - Break for Lunch
12:00 PM - ESD are picked up by parents and taken back to HBC; T-shirts distributed to ESD and parents
12:00 PM - Resume rehearsal
2:00 PM - Rehearsal ends; clean up
2:15 PM - Youth walk back to HBC
2:45 PM - Meet in Main Gohonzon room to offer rehearsal feedback
3:00 PM - Evening Gongyo
3:15 PM - End Daimoku; T-shirts distributed to everyone who ordered a shirt.
(Parental consent forms are required for any youth below the age of 18 who wishes to participate in the parade)
