Community Outreach & Humanitarian Relief

The SGI-USA promotes a broad range of community outreach initiatives based on humanistic principles and the quest for happiness in order to help humankind come together to work for common goals and share through worldwide exchange the variety of ideas and inherited assets of each culture.

The SGI-USA has been quick to react in times of crisis, offering resources and actively contributing to the support of those in need.

Beacon Outreach Program – Working for the homeless

Saturday, December 29th, the Youth Division came together for its first community outreach program. Volunteers met at the community center for an hour of chanting and morning gongyo, and then proceeded to The Beacon Group in Downtown. Members helped with food distribution, greeting, dish washing, laundry services, and client counseling. Volunteers consisted of youth men and women’s division members.

SGI-USA Houston Clothes Drive

Saturday, January 19th & 26th, the Youth Division came together for a Clothes Drive at the Houston Community Center. The total collection of clothes was divided into two organizations – Meals on Wheels & Beacon Homeless Shelter.

The Youth Division of Houston will be participating in more community and environment outreach programs in the future. Keep checking back this section for more outreach programs!!
